Arriving to My Apartment

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Arriving to my apartment I was nervous. I had signed my lease without seeing it; I did, however, see a video walkthrough of a second-floor apartment. On the drive down, my sister planted seeds of doubt, asking, “how do you know it is not a scam?” or “what if it doesn’t exist?” Now, I was pretty sure it existed, that it didn’t, hadn’t entered my head, but you can never really know if something like an apartment exists, unless you’ve seen it. Read about finding the apartment here.

When we arrived in Blacksburg, I had to stop at the management company to get my keys. As we made our way to the apartment complex, I was tingling with anticipation. It’s situated on a little private road, with the L-shaped apartment complex at the end of the parking area. It’s close to Main Street, only about a 5-minute walk and only a 15-minute walk to my classes. It’s serene and removed enough from campus that it doesn’t feel attached to it. We parked and I walked up to the third floor with my sister. We went through the commercial grade glass door and found my apartment as the first door on the right. That means no neighbors to my right off my living room. The apartment faces the parking area, which is actually a beautiful view. It’s sloped and filled with trees, and you can see a hint of the mountainous area. Currently, a few of the trees have changed to a deep crimson, and it’s gorgeous. It also faces East, so I get the sunrise and incredible natural light throughout the day. If I was on the other side of the hallway, I’d face north Main Street, which would be loud not have much of a view.

I was relieved. I thought 500 square feet would be small, but for one person it’s the perfect size. When I signed the lease, my dad and I tried to measure the space in our house’s dining room, but was impossible to get a good idea of the space. The bedroom is bigger than I imagined. It has sufficient room for a queen sized bed and a desk, with my dresser in the closet. Even if I didn’t, there would still be room for it.

I’m not really sure what else to say about my apartment, or if there is more to say other than I’m thrilled with it. Assuming there are no unforeseen issues, I will choose to live here for the totality of my time studying.
